Of glacial origin, Lake of the Maix is located at the foot of Donovan in a basin surrounded on all sides by the forest. He dreamed and a somewhat mysterious and it is therefore not surprising that it is full of legends, the most famous being the devil's fiddler. The site was occupied by the little man, but wood elements approximate dating from 1000 shows that the occupation since the Middle Ages. A hermitage was established later and the site was a place of pilgrimage until the eighteenth century. The present chapel was built 100 years later.

Some remarkable plants grow on the lake surface, like water lilies and yellow Water clovers. The site is accessible from several places, such as the Col de Pray. Ideally, however, be reached by a beautiful forest output from Moussey Valley, which leads us to the place called Haut de Bon Dieu overlooking the lake whose waters are turquoise, so beautiful reflection. But the site is also accessible from the town of Vexaincourt a track passable by car, which makes its possible visit by families with children or people with reduced mobility.
